Show Page April 29, 1997 6 Mother's Weekend, Great Bonding Moment By BRANDY FOX THL D1XIC SUN For those women needing some quality time with Mom this weekend in St. George, there was plenty to do. Mother's Weekend, sponsored by the Associated Women Students of Dixie College, was packed with activities geared toward spending mother-daughtbonding time. Said Associated Woman's President, Shannon Swint, "Mother's Weekend has been a tradition at Dixie. It's there to bring mothers onto campus, to see their daughter's lives here at Dixie, and learn more about their daughters." Activities included workshops focusing on how to assemble a scrapbook, make a "Syndee Doll," and wreaths. "The workshops were geared to learn more, and to just hang out with the mom's. Like the scrapbook work er shop specialist who showed people how to get organized, with all the little cluttery things that float around the house," said Swint. The AWS committee was fortunate enough to have keynote speakers. "We really lucked out, because they have blocked off the entire weekend to go to Las Vegas with their son, and had already turned down other offers at other schools. Since we were on the way, they felt there was no problem. We were really lucky, because they turned out to be fantastic," said Swint. The women and their mothers attended a dinner Friday evening, followed by a performance by the band Sage, of Cedar City. "Sage plays a lot of fun music, really music. They are really easy to respond to," said Swint. "The band members grabbed some of the moms, and had them join them up-be- at on-stag- e! They played a lot of older songs, and it was really fun." A fashion show at the Red Cliffs Mall was held Saturday afternoon, followed that evening by a Luau. "The Luau was awesome. The Pacific Pearl group performed for us, which is a Polynesian dance group. They were just really lively, and instantly cheered up the whole event," said Swint. Finishing off the weekend, a devotional was held Sunday morning. Speaker, Dr. MaX Rose, talked about the Classic Love theory and the Six Greek personality types. "The devotional was really entertaining, and everybody seemed to have a lot of fun," said Swint. "I think Women's Week is a good tradition," concluded Swint. "It's just a chance for mothers who don't see their daughters a lot to see them, because they do worry." I |
