Show October The Dixie Sun 1, 1996 Page 3 Former Dixie student on trial for sexual abuse charges By Missy Evans THE DIXIE SUN Eggi McRae, the top returning scorer for the Dixie college men's basketball team that was arrested last year on charges of forceable sexual abuse, burglary and kidnapping is on trial this week. McRae'a bail on thee charges of forcible sexual abuse were set at $24,930.00. McRae is accused of fondling a girl and a woman in two separate incidents according to a statement released by Dixie college. The state- ment said the burglary charge stems from an incident where McRae reportedly entered a female students room uninvited and was told to leave. The statement does not say when or where the alleged incident occurred. In another incident, dents, said the college students affairs council when the college's code of conduct may have been violated. Legally Dixie college has an obligation to the Criminal Awareness and Security con-veen- April 10, McRae, a 21 year old freshman reportedly pulled a female high school student into a room and detained her, the college statement said. Besides the four felony charges in 5th District court in St. George, McRae also faces college disciplinary act. McRae's coach Dave Rose, said the criminal charges came as a complete suprise. Rose described McRae as a good team player. "I had no problem with him in and off the court all season" Rose said. Rose couldn't say what shape the team would be in. "We'll deal with that situation as it happens." he said. "Doc" Heppler named to post Professor Jack "Doc" Heppler was recently recognized for his commitment to education by the Western Partnership for Environmental Technology Education who selected him as the president of the board of directors for the western region. Heppler has been teaching biology at Dixie THI COLLEGE College for 1 years and has long been a crowd favorite. He was chosen as the "Outstanding Teacher of the Year," four years and his challenging classes are filled to capacity quar- ter after quarter. Along with his courses in general biology, human biology, anatomy, physiology and microbiology, "Doc" has been instruct ing students in environmental biology, a subject he encourages more dents to investigate.
