From a list of suggestions available from counselor Dick Swan, the most important tip is to prepare continuously for exams and tests. During the last few classes before a final, instructors often review the material, and may describe the test itself, so try to attend. Also, while studying for the test, learn from previous tests tire type of test the teacher gives. Budget study time well. Don't get caught studying for one class and completely neglecting another. Arrange notes and reading assignments in order to study major sections of the test. Prepare sample test questions of your own. Clear lip any topics or areas you are not sure of with the instructor before the exam. Make an appointment to meet with the teacher R 5 3 (I College sophomore Jane Ludlow, Beaverton, Ore., studies for a geology class test in the library Thursday. Counselors suggest taking a minute after reading each page to think about what was said, and studying in a quiet environment, like the library. Study groups are often helpful, and in some classes essential. Each member will most likely bring a new idea to the group, thus allowing for better coverage of the course material. In addition, students who teach material to others during study sessions often learn that material better than anyone else. Try to find a special place to study with no distractions. David M. Wark of the University of Minnesota suggests that before beginning any work, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and let it out slowly. Wark also suggests for students to stop at the end of each page to think about what was read. If the mind wanders, stand up and face away from the books. When the time to take the exam actually arrives, a pamphlet titled "How to Prepare For and Take Examinations," also available from Dick Swan, suggests getting a good night's rest, eating a sensible meal, staying calm, and arriving early to the exam. i Jj JiV'-- ;v r Si i 1 t iVcJ i i C ft! if you har e a headache and more l ill Jf ( i ' NELSON T ' Hie (Lcmoiui 11 tyecialtiU Don't buy jewelry anywhere without shopping Nelson Jewelers.
