Show February 21, 1995 The Dixie Sun Page 3 Women's Conference set for March 4 at Dixie By TARA ESPLIN THE DIXIE SUN If a credit were available to for just going to class one day are it would be a hit. students chances The Women's Conference in Dixie provides that opportunity to Dixie students. The 10th annual Woman's Conference will be held March 4 on the Dixie campus, in the Science and Browning Buildings. Students wishing to receive one credit for participating must attend the keynote speaker's 50 minute welcome, plus go to one section each hour. The 1995 Keynote Speaker will be Holly Hurst, wife of the St. George baseball great, Bruce Hurst. "We are lucky to have Holly as our speaker, she will be just wonderful." said Linda Huddleston, one of the Women's Conference organizers. The conference will bring presenters from all around the state, plus experts in the St. George area. They have put together a wide variety of interesting and fun classes which include everything from low fat cooking and nutrition in the life stages, to a fashion show and interior designing. The workshops which the conference offer have a goal of covering four areas: family, health, career, and social. Huddleston said many students think there is no fun sections. Actually there is a whole section of classes set up for pure entertainment. Tickets are available at Dixie College Bookstore, Dixie Regional Medical Center, Education Department, Enterprise City Office, Stout's Home Furnishings in Hurricane, Hurst Ace Hardware in Cedar City and St. George, and the R & K Bookstore. The cost of tickets, if purchased in advance, are $15 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the door for S20. The videos are currently the workout and aerobics tapes. People are trying to fit in to that everpresent "thin and beautiful" image that society forces upon them. Mark D. Clayton, a licensed clinical social worker and adjunct professor of psychology at Dixie College, will address the gap between the real and ideal images of society in today's Humanities Forum. "We, as individuals and as a society. best-sellin- need to start making variety okay," Clayton says. "We need to focus on beauty from within." Clayton operates a psycotherapy practice in St. George. He was born and raised in Salt Lake City, where he was active in student government, athletics, and music. He has published research articles on "Maternal Employment and Early Adolescence." In addition, he has worked in a variety of settings, from directing psychiatric social services to supervising a team of case managers working the rough streets of Las Vegas' west side and North town districts. The lecture, part of the Dixie College Humanities Forum series, begins at noon in the Dunford Auditorium.
