Wilkinson, a St. George businessman, was attending a basketball shootout at Mesa, Ariz. in December of 1985 when he wasinspned with an idea for a community service project. As a former president of the local Rotary Club, Wilkinson had been involved in many club service projects. But a college football bowl game? The first thing Wilkinson did was meet with former Rotarian and Dixie College officials, tlten he fired a letter off to the National Junior College Athletic ir approval. Once the NJCAA said okay the dream became a reality and the reality became what is now called the Dixie Rotary Bowl. Many people have played a key role in the success of the bowl, including this year's execulivedirector. Jim Coleman. GregCros-haw'- s winning football tradition rapidly propelled Dixie College into the national spotlight year afier year, and Dixie's intense delcnse defeated nationally ranked teams from Kansas, Oklahoma and New York. Fan support also grew each year. A Marching Band Invitational was added three years ago as another event of the Dixie Rotary Bowl. This year, another Wilkinson idea has taken the Bowl another giant step forward with the organization of the Dixie Rotary Bowl Association, a corporation that will now oversee Ihe bowl and associnon-prof- it ated events. The seven members of the board of trustees include Randy Wilkinson, Philip Con-diBob Cochran, Gary Esplin. Gilbert Jennings, George Ramplon and Kim Wallace.
