Florida-Bund- y met with "Old Sparky" at 7:07 a.m. EST. "His eyes started to dart around very quickly, he was looking at everything and anything, like this was the last thing he was ever going to see," Tbm Panaccio, a reporter from Clearwater (Fla.) Sun reviewed. Those attending the execution say that Bundy was terribly weak with fright. A metal cap was placed on his shaven head and additional electrodes were hooked onto his right leg. His last words were aimed towards his attorney James Coleman Jr. and Methodist minister, Fred Lawrence, "I'd like you to give my love to my family and friends." A heavy black veil was put over his head after which the hooded executioner received the final signal for termination. Bundy clenched his fist three times and died after an eternal sixty seconds of electricity. He was pronounced dead at 7:16 a.m. EST. Catching a glimpse of Bundy's face as the veil was removed momentarily, Pannaccio reported, "His eyes were wide open, he almost looked astonished." Outside of the maximum security prison located eleven miles west of Starke, Fla., hundreds of death penalty proponents were gathered in celebration. Shouting curses to the walls wherein Bundy's execution was tak-in- g place, these people felt the murderer was finally getting what he deserved. During this death jamboree pens, hats, and even coffee and doughnuts were available. This display of public support for the death penalty was overwhelming. h penalty protestors were greatly outnumbered, approximately 30 in all. Gathering in a circle of prayer lit by candlelight in a field across the road from the prison, they were discovered by some of the proponents and were harassed. practice. ow west theHil industrial nation stopped executing nals, except the stated Zimring nick-name- Anti-deat- "Every Worki: cri; XJ.S Hawkins in the Punishment and American Agenda. determination of whet or not a particular de, dant should die for crime is simply no rational decision. It's not a deterrent. They've been killing people for thousands of years (execution) and what good has it done?" Mrs. Bundy remained home, not alone; other Americans protest against the death penalty. The contradictory views on capital punishment are constantly being heard. Capital punishment is unjust due to racialism. h This is one of the main arguments of the penalty protestors. A black defendant in Florida was 37x's more likely to be sentenced to death if his victim was white than if his victim black.
