Show Volume XIX - Number 6 January 17, 1986 Dixie College, St. George, Utah 84770 Dixie Center is Well Under Way For those of you who feel St. George is getting boring and something new and exciting needs to be added to Dixie, the time is coming. The new Dixie Center, which is scheduled to open sometime in the fall of next year, will provide Dixie College with opportunities never seen before at this institution. The Dixie Center is the first major construction work for the college since the Nursing Center was added to the Home Economics Bldg, last October. The Dixie Center will provide four basic needs to the community of St. George, and will add to the beauty and diversi- ty of Dixie. Four major seat 1,250 auditorium, a 5,000 seat arena, a 12,000 square foot multi buildings'a purpose area, as well as an indoor-outdo- or than cover pool will more Dixies present needs. The center will also provide more economic opportunities for students, a larger area to view athletic events, and much needed state revenue for Washington County. The idea for the Dixie Center was thought up a few years ago, and the propisition was voted on by all residents of Washington County on November 15, 1983, and eventually passed. Residents will have to pay 3.5 million dollars of the 1 1 million required to build the center. This means that property taxes will slightly increase over the next few years. If the residents come up with the entire 3.5 million, the state of Utah has agreed to put up 4 million of its own money, while the remaining 3.5 million will come through private donors. The Dixie Center is half the size of Dixie Colleges current instructional campus, and the four buildings will cover 140,000 square feet. The gymnasium will be twice the size of the one now in Dixie, the auditorium will be acoustically designed much like Symphony Hall and the swim- ming pool will operate on a d basis. The project is in constuction at the present time, and will hopefully be finished by Oc- tober of 1986. This means that students attending the 1986-8- 7 season will have full use of all the time facilities by fall quarter rolls around. BF year-roun- i I V jL ?
