Dixies final award came from Terri Draper, wife of Brian Draper, who won her Bronze award in Prose Interpretation with her presentation of Katherine Ann Porters The Jilting of Granny Weatherall. Two Utah coaches were also honored in balloting during the week long contest, by being named to receive the prestigious Fellowship award. Dixies coach Donald Hinton, was named to the number three position, while Neil Warren of the College of Eastern Utah, selected for the second year in a row, was named in the fifth place for that honor. Were very proud of the squad this year, Michael emphasized Woodward, Dixie Forensic Director. They scored one and one half times as many points this year as last, and for the third year out of four, placed us within the top twenty teams in the nation. Diane Wilkey, from Nephi, captured her second national bronze award trophy in Persuasive Speaking, speaking on the treatment of Down Syndrome children. Enterprises Teresa Schriver, also added a bronze award in Persuasive Speaking with her speech on the nationals this year. It was the contestants in Speech to Entertain which anchored Dixies 19th place finish, with Kelly Macfar-lanwinning Dixies first ever Gold award in that event with his speech on Wood Leg Prejudice. Ray Eldard added a Silver award in the same event with his speech on Stupidities smaller community. We are also pleased that the cast includes three people who have not performed before in Dixie Theatre: Margaret Gatehouse, Jim Hulihan and Julie Gates. Also from the community are Wayne Jolley Duane Chesler. Harold and Stephens, Dale Warren, Brooks Washburn and Mark Schaff are Dixie College students who have been cast. BLEACHER BUMS is a comedy at Wrigley Field, Chicago, on a hot summer day at the Ball Park. The St. Louis Cardinals are playing the Chicago Cubs, and the Cubs havent won a pennant or a series for thirty years. However, the Bleacher Bums are loyal fans and are hopeful that their Cubs will come through with a win. This years production is being directed by Robert Jones who had leading roles in previous Dixie College-Communit- y Theatre pro- ductions of THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER and NIGHT OF JANUARY 16th. In earlier years he played Henry Higgins in Dixie College Theatres MY FAIR LADY. Mr. Jones has had professional experience in acting and directing in Florida and New York. Becky Cooper is Stage Manager and Pat Taffs is Property Manager for the show. Tickets for BLEACHER BUMS will be sold in the community by members of the Delta Psi Omega Drama Fraternity who will solicit door to door for their scholarship and fund for which trip BLEACHER BUMS is being produced. Tickets also will be available beginning April 26 at the Dixie College Fine Arts Center and on evenings of performances. |
