It seems that, as of yet, no conclusion has been reached on either of these items. Other topics of discussions were the fact that overall, Dixie faculty members have a higher fringe benefit program than most other colleges in the state; the threat of SUSC offering 2 year vocational programs--whicwould mean competitions for Dixie: the benefits of having an excellent athletic program (and a winning team) and future sources of donations to the college, whether monetary or not. The goal for Dixie, according to Pres. Kerr is to meet the needs of the Southwestern Utah area. And, Dixie College seems to be meeting them effectively. test tomorrow; registration open for March 22 test who have for students registered Test of English as a iFor-eg- n (TOEFL) must show up Language am, or they will not be allowed to take it, says Wayne Westmann, director of the English as a second 8.35 b students who are not already registered cannot take tomorrows test, foreign ,e Southern Quill i but they may and should register now for the next exam, to be given March 22. Attrition means firings, elimination of programs and causing the students to suffer. Already some action has been taken in both options. President Kerr has saved the college $20,000 in the center. Last year, the college had two system Vi computers and two operators. Now, one system VI has been eliminated and the operator has resigned and not been replaced. Also, one of the custodians has resigned and will not be replaced, saving the college money. This action, however, seems to annoy the faculty and staff who are saying that they already feel his loss. Pressure seems to be applied to faculty and staff as to performance, the quality of their classes and the students reactions to courses offered. Kerr remarked that some courses, such as vocational classes, have a need to be limited to a small number, but that there are classes that he is aware of that are small and shouldnt be small." If attrition is approved, classes will need to be absorbed by other faculty members to keep vital programs functioning. TOEFL rouiorrows Administration absorbs 4 cutback A passing score on this test is required of all foreign students transferring to a University. Kerr would like to find a compromise between the two options, but as of yet has not answers to the many questions concerning the budget cut. However, he does agree that the budget cut is forcing us to do some evaluations that we should have been doing anyway." Randy Wilkinson says the evaluations are an appropriate business practice," and overall, there are some good effects to having a budget review, however painful the procedures involved.
