Show January 27, 1978 - THE DIXIE SUN - Page 5 James Force Joins Teaching Force Dixie College has announced the appointment of James N. Force to the teaching staff of the College. Mr. Force, a Dixie College alumnus, and graduate of both Utah State University and University of Utah, will teach Basic Composition and advise the Southern Quill" literary magazine. Mr. Force has won several awards for poetry and has had his work published in several magazines, including the Blue Fife" and the Baleen Press. He also served on the Student Council, was on the high honor roll and lettered in baseball. Mr. Force attended Dixie on College scholarship where he was Editor of the Southern Quill for two years, and Editorial Editor of the Dixie Sun." He received Best Creative Writer Award" in 1966 and the Journalism Award" for reporting in 1967. After receiving his B.S. degree in Psychology from Utah State in 1969, Mr. Force continued his education at University of Utah, where he obtained a Masters degree in English and American Literature in 1975. While at the U of U, he received Honorable Mention" in the Academy of American Poets contest, and presented a special reading with other winners. Recently he acted as the Festival Coordinator for the Southern Utah Folklife Festival" held during September at Zion National Park. In addition to teaching, Mr. Force enjoys cutting and creating with Utah Picture Stone and has a poem Bro. At Allred Is New Man Tute The L.D.S. Institute of Religion has a new teacher. His name is Garth L. Allred. coming to Dixie, Allred was the director of the Institute of State Religion at Florida University. He has held a number of professional positions including principal of two Utah seminaries, coordinator of Indian Seminaries, and Psychiatric Aide at the Utah State Hosoital Before Brother Church assignments have always played an important role in his life. In the past he has served as an instructor for various quorums and organizations including Bishop of the Tallahassee Florida Ward and First Counselor to the Stake President in the Tallahassee Florida Stake. Brother Allred is also an of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Besides teaching at the Institute, Brother Allred is licensed by the State to conduct marriage, family, as well as individual counseling and therapy. He works with members of the community in the evenings after Institute is over. Brother Allred teaches three courses and Courtship including Marriage, which he feels especially qualified for, having written his dissertation for his Ph. He spends some of his limited free time translating them from Hebrew into English. Brother Allred attended B.Y.U. in Provo where he received his B.S. and M.S. degrees. He later attended Florida State University, where he received his Ph. D. While serving a full time mission in New York, Brother Allred met his future wife, Mary Best of Spring-ville- . They were married in January of 1964 and are now the proud parents cf seven children, ranging in age from fourteen to one and a half years. All those who are acquainted with Brother Allred know he is not only a well qualified and welcome addition to the Institute faculty, but also a great guy. Prior to his graduation from Dixie High School in 1965, Mr. Force received honors as Best Actor of the Year" and "Outstanding Social Sciences Graduate. He was undefeated in State debate competition where he received a "Superior rating, and he was awarded the Gold D" service award.
