Show Page 4 - THE DIXIE SUN - October 7, 1971 Rock Collection Dixie College has a new rock collection according to Mr. Wayne McConkieof the Geology Department. The Collection, representative of every formation in the Dixie area, was collected by Robert GardnerofSt. George. Mr. Gardner was raised in Pine Valley. He attended Utah State University where he earned a Masters Degree in Soil Science. After solving a problem of excess nitrates, sulfates and other salts in some of the soil of Southern Colorado, Mr. Gardner joined the faculty of Colorado State at Fort Collins in 1929. He earned a full professorship at CSU, and then in 1955 went to Turkey where he supervised the establishment of a soil and fertilizer research institute. After completion of the job in Turkey he spent a year in Puerto Rico and then retired to St. George. All the while he was in Turkey and Puerto Rico he had thought of moving back to St. George to start a systematic collection of through) First meeting Monday, Oct. in HEC 112 at 7:00 p.m. Come help us plan the year. 11 rocks and minerals representative of all of the geological formations exposed in the Dixie area. In 1959 he acquired a geological survey map and started his search for specimens. One side of each specimen was cut and polished and all of the information about it was carefully recorded. CLUB NEWS Spanish Club annual trip to Mexico is being planned. All interested students are invited Friday, Oct. 14 at 12:00 in LA 208 to help The in the planning. No experience with Spanish is necessary. Other activities to be planned are fi- French Club All who have had any French are invited to come and talk, sing, play games, enjoy the food. Delta Psi Omega This club is a national honorary society for students inter- ested in the fine arts with emphasis on the theatre arts. Membership offers opportunities and activities. Phi Theta Kappa honor society for the puipose of furthering and strengthening academics on campus. Students with a 3.5 are qualified for an invitation to initiation, and must maintain a 3.0. Young Homemakers all who want to cheer for Dixie whenever and where ever they It is the objective ofRebel Rousers to try to involve as many Dixieites as possible in the generating of positive Dixie Spirit. Membership is open to Theatre Productions Free ! An exciting season of plays has been selected for the 1971-7- 2 Dixie College school year, and Dixie College students are ad- mitted with their activity cards to all productions. Students are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to see live theatre and to add to their cultural backgrounds. In addition, of course, many of the productions will be highly entertaining. November 2 through 6 will be performance dates for OUR TOWN, a drama which emphasizes the importance of living life to the fullest. Many college and university theatre departments have determined to produce this American classic every few years in order that each generation may have opportunity to become acquainted with it. A large cast of men and women will be utilized in this season opener. THE LATE CHRISTOPHER BEAN by American playwright Sydney Howard will be presented in the Dixie College Arena Theatre December 7 through 11. This comedy also has something to say regarding life - there are values which exceed the impor ance of money and power. The Dixie College Theatt production of HELLO, DOLL) will be the most fascinating prt duction of this musical seen th side of Broadway.
