Show April 16, 1958 THE DIXIE SUN PAGE THREE Scholarship Committee Provoite Wins Laurels Former Nevadan Rates Dixie News Files Reveal Amends Policy Seeking As High on Popularity List Athletes of 30 Years Ago Personality of Week Cure of Defects Observed cross-countr- y To meet the needs of a fluid society, policies and procedures must undergo continual evaluation and if needs be, they must change. During the past year the scholarship policy has been examined by the scholarship committee and some notable defects observed. Consequently, it has been amended and rewritten. For the forthcoming year the scholarships at Dixie college will be awarded according to the following principles: 1. All high school valedictorians scholwill be awarded a arship amounting to $85 when they enroll at Dixie college. 2. The Dixie high school valedictorian and the high freshman student at Dixie college will also be granted scholarships of $85. 3. Other scholarships given to students in the immediate vicinity nf St. George will be granted only on the basis of demonstrated need, except where the donor specifies otherwise. 4. Scholarships will be granted to other students on the basis of need and achievement. The achievement awards may be in one of three areas: a. On the basis of academic excellence. b. On the basis of talent in a special area of activity (music, art, drama, etc.) or on the basis of demonstrated leadership in student government or student directed activifull-tuitio- n ties. the basis of achievement in the field of athletics. 5. All scholarships will be conditional. A third of the amount awarded will be granted each quarter. Students awarded scholarships on the basis of academic excellence will be expected to maintain a B average in order to receive their grant for the next quarter. Other students, who it is expected will spend much of their time in their field of activity, will be required to maintain a C average. c. On i Stan Allen get a few facts this comparatively to the personalities Im sure many of you have become much better acquainted with Stan due to the recently waged political campaign. However, there are many things you likely dont know and would never know unless you prodded and probed as I had to do to get Stan Well! Lets straight about new addition here at Dixie. started. Stans story starts in Salt Lake City, but since his time, like most of ours, was spent in. the monumental task of just growing up, well jump to age fourteen when our personality moved to Provo. In junior high school, Stan played basketball and football. And it looks as though he developed his sunny personality early in life, for prior to his graduation from junior high, he was voted Personality Boy. (I was a mouse till I was Then Stan went to BY high, where some of his activities were basketball sophomore, junior and senior years, which, incidentally, resulted in honors such as honorable basketball and mention and membership in the Broken Leg Club wherein Mike Wiscomb was ein colleague (and where we all hobbled around together and sewed . .), junior prom committee, a lead in the winning competitive assembly, school spirit committee (similar to our piffled-ou- t reactionary committee which died prematurely), senior class social chairman, lettermens club senior hop committee, and he was in charge of all social affairs in connection with graduation. And finally, Stan was voted sophomore personality of the year. Stan Allen has a huge university in his own home town, yet he prefers to come to Dixie. The men, after being examined by a physician to determine their physical fitness, were given a training schedule to prepare them for the event. Besides individual prizes that the progressive business men gave to those completing the race, the athletic council gave to the third year class who captured a plurality of points, two large turkeys. The gold medal offered to the first man over the line was won by Elwood Romney. He was immediately followed by Evan Woodbury and Bert Baxter. The other athletes in the order of their winning are: Don Bleak, Nathaniel Lemmon, Walter Moss, Rulon Pectol, Carl Stratton, Orlin Colvin, Richard Heaton, Owen Cottam, Elmer Christian, Howard Cannon. Francis Leavitt, Morris Perkins, Reed Blake, George Snow, Ross Savage, Tell Gubler, Calvert Andrus, James Linder, LeGene Morris, Antone Moody, Ray Whipple, Horatio Gubler, Arthur Vincent, Donald McGregor, Leland Brooks, Clyde Perkins, Mar McGregor, Clark Gubler, Preston Larson, Edwin Sandberg, Menzies Benson, Murray Fullerton, Archie Tobler, Alton Fordham, Rupert Ruesch. Lets all swap problems since everyone always knows how to solve the other persons. Pat Ramsey Born, Pat Ramsey, in Ely, Nevada. Five pounds, five ounces, including cigar. Moved to Las Vegas in the eighth grade. Fortunately, along in here somewhere, she visited St. George, where she associated with the DeAnna Hawkins, Wally Mathis set. Graduated from the eighth grade in Whittier, California, where Pat was honored with the outstanding citizenship award. She also sang in the concert choir, and when she moved to Fullerton, Calif., after graduation, she continued her choir work there. Pats other activities there included Christmas dance, prom, formats, committees, secretary of business club, social chairman of the teachers club, pep rally committee, member of Spanish club, skating club, WAA club, active member of assembly committee, participation in dance for assemblies and concerts, and was a Pleides which means she belonged to the honor society. And the Fullerton chamber of commerce sponsored Pat as a contestant for the title of Miss Hospitality. Then Pat Ramsey came to Dixie. When asked why she did such a nice thing, Pat related that both her parents graduated from Dixie, that her grandfather, H. L. Reid, taught here for years and years and years, and because it was smaller California schools are so big! Pat has really thrown herself, heart and soul, into Dixie life. This year she has been: Rebelette secretary, Dixiana social chairman, battery Bs contestant for Miss National Guard, dancer in freshman competitive assembly, and partici-patioin Carousel, (also in dance), just to name a few. In case any of you want to know where to find Pat this summer, starting June 1 you may find her working at Knotts Berry Farm, as she did last summer. Man! some girl all this and her summers job already! We are happy to have a beautiful and talented coed at Dixie, such as Pat Ramsey. (Arent we, Stan?)
