Assistant Business Assistant Exchange NOVEMBER 11, DIXIE COLLEGE, ST. GEORGE, UTAH Editor ORCHIDS AND ONIONS Founders On November 20, 21, and 22, Dixie College will present the eighteenth annual Fine Arts Festival. At this time the college will bring to its students and patrons a three-da- y program of the fine arts including drama, mu6ic, dancing, and painting. The Festival had its beginning in 19 35 in an art exhibit promoted by a group of Dixie College faculty members and students who were taking art classes from Mr. S. Ralph Huntsman (then teaching at Virgin Valley High School) on Saturdays. In this venture Mr. Huntsman was ably assisted by Dr. D. Elden Beck and Miss Emma Neilson of the College faculty. Miss LaVerd Whitehead was chosen to represent the Spirit of the Fine Arts in this first festival, and she unveiled, the first of many paintings acquired by the college from these exhibits. It was J. H. Stansflelds Our Utah. In 1936, when Mr. Huntsman came to Dixie as a regular teacher, the Beaux Arts Guild was officially organized under the leadership of Dr. Beck and Miss Neilson. Other sponsoring organizations which assisted with later festivals were the various art, music, and literary clubs on the campus. Today the Festival is presented through the joint efforts of the various departments in the humanities division, the physical education department, and the student body organization. The purpose of the Festival Is to make available to its students and patrons cultural experiences in music, dancing, dramatics, literature, and painting. It is hoped that everyone will avail himself of the opportunity to enjoy the offerings of the Festival this year. Mr. A. Karl Larson Fire and skyrockets!
