There are those who wish to build a wall around the university, timorously feeling that it is dangerous to be involved in the stresses of community life, and that being so involved is irrelevant to educational objectives. This statement represents one line of bought. The opposite view is expressed in the following 1 statement: "The university of the people has the responsibility of taking the university, the professors, the books, the skills, Ihe findings of research, the interpretations, the insights, and the publications to the people to make all the resources of the university available to the people beyond the college walls. Dixie rather follows the latter trend. It has always been the policy of Dixie college lo work in close cooperation with community activities and to have the community cooperate in school activities. It is fortunate that our campus is located in the heart of the town where it is easily accessible to students and towns people alike. Dixie college is mindful of the interest and the participation in school activities by the citizenry. A small survey made of the activities of facul- -- ty members reveals varied and close relations with the public. Based on a questionaire an- swered by 30 members of the Dixie college faculty 24 men and 6 women we have the following data: 61 positions in community activities are held, 16 civic, and 45 church (15 stake and 30 ward) positions. Of these 16 civic positions, 7 men and 3 women are participating. In the stake activities, 11 men and one woman, and in the ward activities, 19 men and three women participate. A survey of records of these teachers in the past reveals that this is not unusual. Members of the present faculty have held 153 activity positions, 39 civic positions, 114 church positions 44 stake and 70 ward. In the civic positions, 36 positions were held by 13 men and three positions by two women. Seventeen men and five women filled respectively 33 and 11 offices. In the ward, 23 men and four women filled 59 and 11 positions JUST ARRIVED New watches, new bands all popular makes, and on easy terms.
