Show VOLUME II. GOVERNOR MAREY SAINT GEORGE, UTAH, DECEMBER 21, 1923. VISITS DIXIE Governor Mabey and his party received a hearty welcome from the people of Washington County. Six cars, carrying officers and members of the Commercial Club and other prominent citizens, went to Washington as a reception committee to meet the Governor. A public meeting was held in the tabernacle at 7:30 p. m. There were many citizens and students in attendance. The Dixie College music department, directed by Prof. Jos. W. McAllister, furnished several chorus A violin duet was renderselections. ed by Prof. Earl J. Bleak and Miss Vera Seegmiller. Brief addresses were made by Senator David Hirschi, Hon. Randall L. Jones, representative from Iron County; Hon. James Judd, representative of Washington County The instructive address of Governor Charles R. Mabey received repeated applaus in sincere appreciation. He paid deep tribute to the national constitution and its founders. It was evolved by a great author with nien for its formulators. It has been a guide for 14 5 years and only nineteen amendments have been necessary to repair it to ably govern 112 millions of people. The Governor voiced his appreciation for the character of Utahs people, their advancement and cooperation. The necessity of rightly enforcing lws of the nation, state and country were advanced. The state road policy was revealed and project work advocated. As good roads are the advance agents of civilization, so Southern Utalii and Dixies future development is dependent on her roads. Citizens lets boost and support this policy! DIXIE BASKETBALL BOYS VICTORIOUS The Dixie Basketball boys returned Saturday, Dec. 15th. from the basketball practice trip. They brought with them a total number of 28 4 points won as compared with 22 6 points made by all the other schools combined. Our team met the teams of the following schools: Orderville, Kanab, Panguitch, Richfield, Circleville, Milford, Beaver, Minersville, and Paro-wa- n winning five out of the nine games played. Although we are pleased with the fact that the Dixie team won a majority of the games, we are more pleased with the report that throughout the games our boys were especially noted for their clean sportsmanship and fast playing. By all means get some little token for each member of the family if you can, but mind you, your folks will expect something bigger by far than you can ever hope to put into your suitcase. Take home a kind regard for the help your family has given you and express it. 1. Woodbury are the donors of a $25 scholarship, to be presented annually by the Board of Directors of the Dixie For the present year it is College. suggested that the scholarship be awarded by the Faculty subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees. The recipient is to be some student who shows capacity for education, who has high ideals of duty and service, who is appreciative of opportunities offered by the College, and who needs the assistance. This scholarship was given jointly by Mr. and Mrs. Woodbury and it will bear both their names. The Dixie Student Body greatly appreciates this offer and wish to thank the donors of a gift so kindly Mr. Woodbury is one of the given. early students of the school and he wife h.rw? iwr been among I OLIVE NICHOLES WINS IN CONTEST Mrs. POULTRY SHOW Dixies third annual Poultry show will be held Dec. 26, 27, 28 in the basement of the Tabernacle. This show will be much larger and better than the two previous ones. More coops are being purchased so all the birds will be in all wire pens. The quality of our poultry has improved since last year. Many of the best birds in the western states have been shipped into Dixie this season and Some of the will be exhibited. sweepstake winners at the 19 2 3 state Fair, will also be in the show. Utahs only available licenensed poultry judge will do the judging. This will be one of the best poultry shows ip our state this year. Dixie will soon be one of the most important poultry producing sections in Utah. If you dont believe this attend the show and study the situation for yourself. B. A. C. PRESENTS PLAY Saturday, Dec. 15, the B. A. C. school play, Lettersn Letters was presented in St. George. It was a brilliant comedy and was well prepared and given. The cast consisted of experienced actors and actresses, all of which successfully played their roles. The play was well attended and appreciated by all.
