79 Sagendorf who died Thursday was the assistant to "Popeye" creator Elzie C Segar who began the strip in 1929 under the title "Thimble Theater" After Segar's death in 1938 other cartoonists drew "Popeye" for two decades before Sagendorf took it over in 1958 and introduced new characters such as Granny and Dufus led him to drop Faililyesight strip in 1986 But he ccAtinued to draw the Sunday Holt She attended Utah State and Brigham Universities Young graduating from Univer- deo with a de- Utah of sty gree in education in 1930 She taught elementary school in Salt Lake City schools for 42 $ years and dearly loved the children trusted to her care She married Frank Allen Hoggon on October 10 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple and helped raise his three surviving children He died September 26 1969 She married Emerson Stuart Hand June 5 1975 He died April 23 1990 She was an active member in the LDS Church serving in the various auxiliary organizations She served a full time mission with her husband Missouri Emerson Hand In the Independence Anna was also a long Mission from 1975-197- 7 time temple worker and community volunteer She loved to do volunteer work In the hospitals She loved animals music children and reading Anna will be remembered for her sense of humor love and kindness to all people children and animals She was a loving wife mother sister daughter and aunt a devoted
