Show f CITY'S CELEBRATION f T 7 WAS 15 SAfE AND SANE S Independence Da Day Observed According to Revised Code Safe and Nano llano watt was the order o othe of the day for Ephraim's Fourth of July r celebration and whatever merit there Is Ia in the new way of observing tho the event ovens was fully lully demonstrated It way was perhaps tho the first Fourth of July that the tho noise noille of tho the firecracker tho the rock rock- rocket rock rock-I et and pinwheel entirely absent and where there were no accidents re resulting from the uproarious brand of patriotism There was wall however sufficient diversion to satisfy tho the dosi de- de si scree res of most moat of the citizens and their guests guesta and all in all the days day's observance observance ob oh servance was both pleasurable and i appropriate With but few modifications tho the program was rendered according to tho the plans plane of the committee and although al aI- though the features were not as numerous numerous num num- erous orous as on tho the preceding Fourth they were all meritorious well patronized and pleasing The advent of the day was heralded by the usual boomIng of cannon with the accompaniment of musketry by a squad of militiamen I A public concert was given by tho band at 8 a. a m. m and music was rendered rendered ren ren- dered by tho the organization throughout the day clay At 10 o'clock the formal program was given in the tabernacle and one of It its most enjoyable features was the singing by the girls' girls chorus under the direction of L L. L S. S or of ot the he tabernacle choir C. C L L. Thorpe was chaplain of the tho day and 55 James master of los Ics Miss bliss Beulah Deulah Anderson read the Declaration Declaration n of ot Independence and P.O. P. P C. C Peterson Jr delivered a forceful oration Miss Eva Bailey Dailey sang the k Star Spangled Banner Danner in keeping with the spirit of the the occasion and Miss 1 Graco Grace Johnson gave a recitation entitled Spartacus Address Addrena to the r Gladiators a a. selection m which she gave in Salt Lake Olt City last winter and which received much favorable comment from rho the tho critics in the cap cap- ital t The baseball game in the afternoon between the Ephraim and Moroni teams was well patronized and both S the tho playing and the he result received tho the endorsement of the Ephraim peo peo- plo The score was 6 to 5 in favor of tho the local team but it was waa necessary w to play ten innings in order to bring about this result The scare was so close ut t all times Umes that interest never lagged and considering that it was ono one of tho the first match games played by either cither team there were remarkably remarkably S bly few fow errors It was shown that S Ephraim has material for a good baseball baseball base base- ball team this year car and all that is S needed is a n. little more practice The result of tho the gamo game played by the same teams at Moroni that afternoon 4 was not BO so creditable Tho The score was 25 to 20 in favor of Ephraim and it was wall evident that both teams were reS reserving re reo S serving their best efforts for the sect second second sec sec- t ond and game |
