Show SH SELF WHILE INSANE shortly after three thirty on oil sunday afternoon mr abas F nelsen nelsea of this city walked into ills his bell bed room took his revolver from a bureau drawer placed the muzzle against the root roof of his mouth and pulled the trig 1 ger ills his wife aho ho was in an adjoining in room resting rushed to his side upon hearing the report of the gun gull only to find him lying upon the floor ills body in the last quivers of death distracted mrs nelson nelsen rushed 0 0 the door called tor for help some of the neighbors answering the call but by the time they arrived life was gona the news was circulated about the street as people were wending their way home from the tabernacle services and it naturally created a sensation for mr air nelsen was about the streets on saturday and sunday apparently patently ly as happy as ever and for some time the report was hardly credited people feeling generally that an accident must have happened by which mr helsens nelsons Nel sons sens life was sacrificed relatives and friends of the family gathered at the home immediately to learn the full particulars and an inquest was decide upon by tile the officers justice C 0 christensen acting as coroner Impanel led a jury consisting of F IV FI fishburn sIlburn W C illsley and peter jensen and a number of witnesses were examined nearly all testified to the fact that mr helsens nelsons Nel sons sens mind lad had become affected somewhat of we lite due to ills his impaired physical condition and it was also stated that members of his family feared something would happen to him for some time taking everything into consideration coni I 1 the jury brought in a verdict of self destruction while laboring under temporary derangement three weeks ago while delivering a load of fruit at the depot lie he became overheated and was all but overcome lie ile complained of his lead since that time and from that date his mind stean seemed ed to be affected mr nelsen had bad been Tiou doubled bled with rupture for many years and lie he suffered greatly it was finally deci decided deI by himself and family that lie would un deigo an all opet atlon ills his son leroy b had ad a conversation with him on the matter on saturday and again on oil sunday before going to church IN mr I 1 r was worried considerable as to the ile he told liis his son le roy Suri dav who pressed him to go bolig to m nn eing ding billat illat that he did not car can to 0 zo o bin bill asked him to come back after and they would discuss the mattor fu fin ither ther ills wife felt worried for adorne time on account of her husbands bus bands strange actions with his revolver ile he was very solicitous ot or his gun having purchased and used it ho he vias a policeman and lie he would take it from its place in the bureau drawer handle and examine it often always replacing it and locking the drawer ile he also wa was given to arising in the middle of the night and walking about the house a number ot of times all of these things tending to substantiate the fact that ho he was affected in his mind on saturday bo bolever sever he be appeared perfectly sound attended to a number of matters ot of business went to tile the funeral services of the late P F r madsen walking with the members ot of his quorum irom from the residence to the meeting house and in every way did not betray the least sign ot of any mental weakness the spells would afflict him at intervals and then thea pass off apparently and it was undoubtedly while one ot of these occasions came over him on sunday when left alone with his wife that he was led to take hla his lif me e charles F nelsen was a most inoffensive no and considerate gentleman ent lenan continued on page two SHOOTS SE F WHILE insane continued from first page honest kind gentle genial and always with a pleasant expression on his features and a kind word of greeting he seemed the soul of contentment and happiness lie ile was born december 2 1852 in denmark and came to am edica early in life he made his home in Brig hain city where lie he reared his family of eleven children seven of whom survive him he lias bas been a consistent consi stant and honorable citizen of this community all his days spent here and in his church work in the first ward he was one of the pillars to the bishopric for he be never failed in the performance of any duty assignee assie assi gnei 1 ta to him ile he served on the police force tor for a number of years occupying the position of deputy city marshal and night watchman his untimely passing and the state of his mind which prompted the tragedy which ended his life Is i a most distressing blow to his family and friends and in fact to this entire community and universal sympathy goes out to 1 sirs mrs antisen and her children while every heart breathes a prayer i that god will sustain them and comfort their hearts funeral services were held tuesday afternoon at 2 at the residence |
