Idaho (AP) Lewi Feild, the cowboy who's leading in the chase for the 1985 rodeo title, had a strong showing in his two events Tuesday night, launching the annual Snake River Stampede here. Feild. who is from Elk Ridge, Utah, scored 77 points for the second-placscore of the evening in saddle-bron- c riding and also was second in riding with 76 points. He was the champibn at the Stampede two years ago but has never won the world title.. Feild leads the rest of the pack by more than $20,000 with more than $68,000 in total arena winnings this season. The reigning champion cowboy, Dee Pickett of Caldwell. is third with $46,000. In bareback bronc riding Tuesday, Joe Talburt of Oakland, Ore., a former student at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton. Ore., started the rodeo off with a wild ride on a bronc called Storm Peak. Talburt has won $13,000 d d d this summer and hopes to qualify for his first National Finals Rodeo in December Rick Cyle. a roper from Quanah. Texas, who was roping for his first time in Nampa, clocked the fastest time Tuesday in calf roping. 9 5 seconds. Cyle, a 1984 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rookie, said he hasn't been having a good year and has won only $5,000 to date. Between now and Friday, Cyle will be competing at Vallejo and Salinas. Calif.
