Show o J ffroisi EPHRAIM, SANPETE COUNTY. UTAH SEPTEMBER 2i), 1004 VOL. 14 HARD WORK FOR COUNTY SEAT. Beginning Campaign in Earnest "Ephraim People The campaign which rcMilcntsof Ephraim aro going to wage during the noxt two months in behalf of their contention that the county 'seat of Sanpete county ought to be in their town is beginning to assume tangible form and those in charge of it aro getting earnestly at work. From now until the question is settled by the voters on election day they will leave nothing undone that can in any way further their idea. The big end of the work will be done in this city, naturally. Those who have looked into the matter realize that the balance of power is held here, and if Ephraim can get the sentiment here any berertinanimously its way, and then has reasonable success in other parts of North Sanpete, it will be successful.' The work already done here is undoubtedly having the desired effect. Where , ix months ago but one person favored Ephraims side of the matter at least five lean that way now. But very few people have refused to sign the petitions which ask that, the matter bo brought to a vote, and the number of names necessary before that is possible have been about secured. The bonus promised by Eph raim of $11,000 has been placed x)n deposit. During the . past week $6,000 in cash has been plac ed in the Ivit. Pleasant bank subject to the order of Sanpete sounty if the vote goes favorable to Ephraim. The deed to the house and lot which is to be given the county by Ephraim has also been with the bank subject to the same conditions. Subscriptions are yet being solicited and the cash bonus will doubtless be materially increased before election day. Manti, so far as any public demonstration is concerned, is showing absolute apathy in regard - to to the matter. In fact it has been said on good authority that the statement has been made by prominent men of that town that nothing would be, done, as they have no fears of Ephraim secur ing the desired number of votes and that there is not the remotest probability of tho scat of government being moved. Inspired by this confidence they aro taking no apparent interest in Ephraims work. North Sanpcto Throughout Ephraim is gaining strength daily. In this city the opposition has been based on the hopo that some daysooL another fight could be inaugurated in behalf of the idea to have the seat of government brought here and that snch a fight could bo brought to a successful Interviews with termination. dozens of leading men during the past month, however, disclose the fact that that idea is being abandonedThey are all beginning to realize that snch a change, however desirable a one it would ' With the be, is an impossibility. idea of Mt.
