Special to The Tribune RIVERTON — Jehovah's Witnesses will hold a two-da- y assembly at the Bingham High School auditorium 2160 W 10400 South Saturday and Sunday Theme of the meeting is “Joyfully Enduring Trials Gains God's Approval" The program will focus attention on the various trials confronting modern Christians which they must endure to have God's approval According to Elmer L Manfredi district overseer of a region for the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York "Society often attempts to influence the Christian to imitate conduct which is Biblically wrong Peer pressure among youths is a common example” he said Also six-sta- Recently ordained Episcopal priest the Rev Elaine P Howlett took several detours on her way to church’s priesthood be youth ministry and Christian education "My decision to begin a ministry outside Utah really comes out of the fact that for me it’s important to have my own autonomy and continue the process of being Elaine Howlett and not Father Ed’s daughter I love being Father Ed’s daughter but I’ve also been excited about growing into the possibility of who Elaine is and that has really happened to me the last three years” in the Episcopal Church in high school and college as a way of hiding from myself as a way of pro- tecting myself I've always seen the church as my niche a place where I felt accepted when often I didn't feel accepted growing up in the public school system “Since I’ve been in seminary I have realized I saw the primary role of the church as to give comfort to people to minister to people’s needs I’ve realized that the Christian church the Episcopal Church has a mission to preach the Gospel and work for justice in the world in addition to the role of giving comfort I had to leave Utah to discover that” In the coming months Ms Howlett will become curate of St David's (Radnor) Episcopal Church a large parish in Wayne Pa a suburb of Philadelphia Her primary responsibilities on a staff that already includes three priests will the ensuing three years she worked as a librarian thinking all the while about applying to enter seminary The congregation of St Mark's affirmed her call three years ago and she was off to Episcopal Divinity School Cambridge Mass which will award her a Master of Divinity degree May 28 Her ideas about herself and her church have broadened considerably during her studies She feels now that growing up in a predominantly Mormon community made her withdraw from the world “I think I used my involvement that the possibility of She said returning to Utah to work in the Episcopal Church is an open question She does not intend to return immediately not within the next five years at any rate "but it’s certainly something that could ” happen “I’m waiting to see how I feel and how I feel the spirit is moving Heritage Baptist Church 15 N 900 will hold a revival Sunday through May 10 nightly at 7 pm In addition there will be a special service Sunday at 11 a m The Rev Gerald Wood Albuquerque N M will speak Sunday through West To Speak at Christ Scientist Meet Christian Science lecture at the Second Church of Christ Scientist 1165 Foothill Drive will be presented Thursday at 7 30 p m by Barbara B A 1 Holliday Washington f) C Mrs Holliday a member of thel Christian Science Board of Lectureship Mill speak on Lum Establishes the Brotherhood of (he Nations" She has worked on the staffs of three U S representatives and a IS senator during a dozen years of work in the congressional field After serving as a legislative assistant press assistant researcher and speech writer in the areas of conservation and environment housing banking and currency she left the political scene to enter the public practice of Christian Science She has been a regular contributor to Christian Science magazines 1 he public is invited and c hilej care will be provided Peter V Meyer founder of the Society for the Teaching of the Inner Christ and the Teaching of Intuitional Metaphysics Inc will present a seminar on “The Science and Art of Revelation” Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm at the Teaching of the Inner Christ Center 275 S 1100 East Dr Meyer hopes the seminar will make participants better understand ligions rather than the differences" The public is invited Religious education classes are provided for -
