C Nov 15 Returning Returning bring the news that the city of Dawson has been visited with a fire in which forty buildings were burned including the new postoffice postoffice postoffice post- post office building and some of the best buildings in the city The fire took place on the morning of October starting at 5 o'clock and was caused by a row between two women af of f the town tow in which one of the women known as Belle Mitchell threw a lighted lamp at another wo wo- man The lamp broke brok the oil spread and in a a. few seconds the building was wason wason wason on fire The flames spread rapidly and in a afew afew afew few moments momen ts the postoffice was ablaze and then despite heroic efforts of the fire department and citizens continued to spread until forty buildings were destroyed There was no insurance upon either buildings or contents and the loss falls entirely upon It is said that there is not enough lumber and window glass in Dawson to rebuild the burned district and that the people are in distress and will I have to live in tents for the rest of the I winter |
