Show Business Briefs .The-fial- t NEW YORK (AP) The nation's basic money supply rose $3.2 billion in the second week of October, an increase well above Wall Street's expectations. Analysts said the rise reflected unusual movements of money between different financial accounts. At the same time, the Federal Reserve Board did not reduce its discount rate Friday, although many credit specialists had expected a cut. The rate, which applies to Fed loans to financial institutions, was cut to 9.5 percent from 10 percent earlier this month as market interest rates tumbled. In the credit markets, interest rates rose and bond prices fell following the Feds release of the money figures late Friday. The rate r on Treasury securities climbed to 8.56 percent from 8.44i percent earlier in the day and 8.31 percent late Thursday. Although the Fed has said it will temporarily pay less attention to growth in the basic money measure, called Ml, the latest increase brought its growth in the past two weeks to $10.3 billion, and that may have encouraged the Fed to postpone a cut in its discount rate, said Elliott Platt, money market economist with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jcnrette Securities Cuip. one-yea- Factory Orders Up .2 - WASHINGTON (AP) Orders for new factory durable good edged up a scant 0.2 percent in September, with furniture and other household items doing well but with the auto industry declining, government figures indicated Friday. Though small, the overall orders gain to a seasonally adjusted $73.3 billion was an improvement over now the big August decline estimated at 4.4 percent. And gov-- : emment economists noted that the September increase would have been 2.1 percent except for a big drop in the highly volatile category of military goods.
