"0" irrrtn-t- yBt'f"n-....- Area Ministries Schedule Renewal Conference The fourth annual Holy Spirit Renewal Conference will he held April 2.1 25 at the Salt Palace Assembly Hall with author Rev. Jamie Buckingham as the featured speaker. The Holy Spirit Renewal Conference sponsored by an association of intermountain ministries, who are interested in spiritual renewal and unity of the body of Christ, according to Garth Halverson, in charge of public relations for the event. is Over 2,500 people with ministers 25 representing churches Wasatch Front are expected to attend the conference which features Praise and Worship meetings as well as workshops and a special luncheon for area ministers, elders and their wives. Workshop on Renewal The conference begins at 11:30 a m Friday with that luncheon. At 7 p.m. Friday the opening worship service will be held with Mr. Buckingham as speaker. On Saturday morning, a second worship service with Mr. Buckingham will be held. At 1 p m. a workshop is scheduled on Spiritual Renewal," which looks at faith, healing and the baptism ofthe Holy Spirit. At 7 p.m. Saturday night Mr. Buckingham will again be speakuig during the third scholar-inresidenc- e . We can make contact with Christ she said, adding Unity ourselves, teaches that people don't need a mediator. Members are encouraged to live by the laws of the universe and Ms. at the synagogue. Saturday evening a Young Leadership discussion session will be led by Rabbis Gordis and Eric A. Silver on Ingredients of Jewish Lead- ership Rabbi Gordis received rabbinical ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. He holds bachelors and masters degrees in Jewish History from Columbia University. He was also awarded a Master of Hebrew Letters and a Ph D by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. He has traveled widely in the United Rabbi Gordis is chairman of the United Synagogue Council on Jewish Education, lie has been a visiting lecturer in Talmud at Brandeis University. Ruth Burkett, pastor of Unity of Salt Lake relaxes in facility which was remodeled Burkett believes, people suffer when they break those universal laws. MURRAY jnembers of Unity of Salt Lake put a n down payment on a building at 62 E. 4800 South and on Easter Sunday, the refurbished home of the metaphysical religion was dedicated. The Rev. Ruth Burkett, minister of . the church, said members donated $15,000 last fall for a down payment and materials to fix up the inside. Then members donated their own labor to complete the job under the direction of contractor John Shryock. Still left to refurbish is the outside of the building, although that work has already begun as members put in a new set of stairs in front. Unity is rather new to Salt Lake City, although it was founded 90 years ago. It began with a small study group in Salt Lake City in 1976 and was incorporated in 1979. At that time. Unity had about 40 members. Church Publication Ms. Burkett said Unity does no proselytizing, but the church grew mainly through word of mouth.
