Show MANY DUCKS, NONE SICK, SAYS CHAMBERS The opening of the duck season on Oct. 1 this year will find conditions among the ducks in thi3 state better than for years past, according to F. W. Chambers, state fish and game commissioner, commis-sioner, and the hunters this season are expected to have record shooting. According Ac-cording to Mr. Chambers there are no sick ducks in Utah now.and the number of ducks is large. The federal law, which federal authorities au-thorities have announced they will use every effort to enforce, limits shooting to from sunrise to sunset, which on Oct. 1 will be from 6:34 o'clock in the morning until 6:10 o'clock in the evening. eve-ning. The state law permits shootu g half an hour earlier chan that time. Of the federal law, Mr. Chambers said: "While ic is good for the club hunters, hunt-ers, it is rather difficult for the common com-mon hunter, who must shoot in difficult places; for the ducks come in to feed during the night auJ leave to return to the deepest water fully half or three quarters of an hour oefore sunrise. It leaves the ordinary hunter to get them in their flight." Mr. Chambers make3 an appeal to the hunters not to violate the law in the matter of shooting, in order that every hunter may have an equal chance, as the early violations frighten the ducks so that no matter how many hunters may await the coming of the legal hour there are few ducks left at that time if they have been disturbed. |
