purposes of 0 tho the parcels post administration this country and its several possessions except the philippine islands should be divided into quadrangular units of arta area measuring 30 minutes latitude by 30 minutes longitude identical nith ith a quarter of the area formed by the intersecting parallels and meridians represented on appropriate postal maps or plans and that each of such units of area should bo be the basis ot of eight postal zones the completed maps show the numbered quadrangles with the eight zones which radiate oft off from the tenter of a given unit indicated by circles dawn at intervals corresponding to a radial distance of 0 50 miles for the first zone which includes the glyen given unit anti anil all contiguous quadrangles miles for or the second zone miles for the third COO for the fourth lor for the fifth 1400 for the sixth and 1800 for the seventh the eighth zone includes all units of area outside tile alie seventh the numbers and boun daries of the quadrangles are printed black while the zone circles and figures are red the law directs that quadrangles lying partly in two zones belong to the one nearer the common center so that the zone one lines on the map if drawn in strict conformity with the actual working out of the system in practice would not be true circles but would plesent a serrated appearance to the projecting outlines of the intersected units each postmaster has been furnished a map showing the zones with relation to tile the quadrangle which includes ills his post office and a parcels post guide containing regulations and the names of all post off offices ices their unit numbers no scale or other device for measuring distances or calculating cu rates will be used as the zone map and guide provide all re information copies of the map accompanying this article will be furnished to the washington D C post office and all others included in I 1 quadrangle 1071 later copies 0 of the unit is ie found in zone eight with to be sent from washington to annapolis md the guide shows annapolis unit of area to be number 1021 the zone map shows that unit 1021 is in zone one the table andl indicates that the rate for 9 pounds
