Show r 13 Selected by Historic Committee Bountiful Area Legacy Preserved in Historic Sites - B' 1 N'TIFL'L The legacy of Bountiful has. been preserved in a booklet describing historic aites in the Bountiful area. The booklet, produced by the Bountiful Area Historic Sites Committee, should increase the awareness of the beauty of Bountiful. The Alma Hardy Photograph Gallery, which was located at 40 gallery was the first photography-studiIt in Bountiful. was located at the present site of the Bountiful Drug Store. Later, Mr. Hardy erected a studio on the east side of Main X. Main. The Street, just north of the present Sherman Williams Paint Store. Mr. Hardy encouraged the leisure time activity of taking pictures. Link 2 Cities The lo- Bamburger. cated at 253 S. 200 West, originally came to Bountiful in 1892 as part of Simon Bamburgers plans to link Salt Lake City and Ogden. The building is now occupied by the Bountiful Light and Power Co., However, it was originally used to store produce and commodities which were shipped by the Bamburger line. The station itself was in front of the existing building. The old Bountiful as a partner for 8475. the amount needed to buy a new press. A month later the name was changed For the early printing, a steam-drive- n press was used. It was later powered by gasoline, then a linotype press was used. Newton Tuttle was Bountifuls first temporary dentist. A blacksmith by trade, the only tool he used was a pair of forceps which he used to pull teeth, charging a quarter for every one pulled. Fet Buckland. Wallace Willey and Daniel C. Lee shared the business until a Dr. Clark, a traveling dentist came to town. In 1897 Byron Kesler was the first to set up an office. Dr. Keslcrs office w as on the west side of Main Street between 1st north and Center Street. Livestock Company The Deseret Livestock Co., and Mercantile Store in Woods Cross. The company was a consolidation of the three major lives- tock families of the area. The building, near the southeast corner of 800 West and 500 South. Christ of Latter-da- y Saints in its early days. , The city assumed the oteration in 1939 with , Johnathon Hill as sexton. Buried In the cemetary are 312 servicemen who sened in the war of 1812, Civil War, Indian Wars, Spanish American War, ! THE CLIMAX OF FESTIVAL wflelhi Yirecatf In 1858, Daniel Wood dedicated a private fami-- j ly cemetary on what is now the west side of 500 West at about 400 N South. It wag then part of Mr. Woods farm. The Sessions Settlement Cemetary was the second cemetary in Utah to be marked by a small quartz oblisk which stands on a small plot of fenced ground at Woods Cross City Park. There are about 20 persons buried there, including two Indians. When roads were laid in later years, some of the graves were moved to the City Cemetary. Between the years the Utah Light and Traction Co. began operating a line between Salt Lake and Chase Lane in Centerville. The power station was located in the building which today forms the tali south portion of the Suulh Davis Medical Center on Fifth South and Orchard Dr. Flve-CeF are Streetcar fare was five cents a ticket to the Salt Lake limits. It cost another nickel to ride into the city, in 1920 the fate was raised to seven cents.
