Show If I TIIE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE 16 UTAH FEELS CHANGES IN STATE BOARD Job Drive Opens Monday STUDIES PLEA 4 Women Plan to Canvass City TO RAIL TARIFF Severe Blow Ambitious plans for developing a fresh water reservoir lake or marsh to the east of Antelope island are disclosed in an application made by George W Snyder Salt Lake for a lease of 85683 acres of state land The land board it was declared Sun day plans to ask Attorney General George P Parker as to its powers In the matter before proceeding much further with negotiations The plans so far as disclosed In the application Involve the construction of 2 16 miles of dike connecting Ante lope island at the south end with the mainland in Salt Lake county a few miles southwest of the mouth of the Jordan river and another dike 4 96 miles long connecting the mainland of Davis county westerly from Kays ville with the island According to the application the dikes together with Antelope island and the mainland would enclose an area of 85100 acres which is desig nated as a reservoir The dikes themselves would occupy another 80 acres or so of land In addition the appll cation asks for the use of about 500 acres of land below the meander line of Great Salt lake and running around the north end of Antelope island to connect with a salt water bathing resort on the west side of the PRICKETT POINTS OUT DISCRIMINATORY CUT Freight on Automobiles to Local Dealers Calls for $181 Over Denver Cost Salt Lake and Utah were struck a severe blow by recent changes In freight rates as applicable from Denver and Cheyenne to Chicago and points east of that city H W Prlck-et- t manager of the traffic service bureau pointed out Eastern railroads and lines in western trunk line territory started Thursday to collect increased freight rates on many commodities but reductions also took effect in long hauls from Denver and Cheyenne which are In the western trunk line zone Data compiled by Mr Prickett Indicate a great spread between Denver and Balt Lake schedules to Chi cago and eastern points "Sait Lake and Utah wil suffer from the reductions In rates from the Colorado and eastern Wyoming points" said Mr Prickett “for while those vicinities are enjoying the ad vantages of cuts in rates amounting to as high as 91 cents our state must pay the same figure as before and manufacturers and producers are the losers” Auto Dealers Act The interstate commerce commis sion recently in effect held that a reasonable rate for first-clas-s freight such as automobiles from Detroit to Salt Lake Is $3 69 and 13 50 from Chi cago This case was presented to the commission by Mr Prickett on behalf of Utah automobile dealers Holding that $3 50 is a reasonable charge from Chicago and with Den ver enjoying a $238 rate under the newest revision Mr Prickett con tends that the $1 12 spread or differ ence between Denver and Salt Lake rates is Just and that this state should not suffer spreads amounting to as high as $184 as prevail under the present schedules The commerce commission in Its consideration of rates pertaining to the western trunk line territory maintained that the spread should be reduced proportionately for the various classes With class 1 freight being regarded as 100 per cent and if the II 12 spread is held reasonabe class 2 should be 83 per cent of $1 12 class 3 10 per rent clssg 4 85 per cent and
