Show 4 Davis County Citizens Get Ready for Fair Art, agriculture and animals are only a beginning of the list of activities and entertainment for the 50th Davis County Fair, Aug. 18 through 20 at the fairgrounds in Farmington. Ed Rogers, fair manager, said, We hope this years fair will succeed in bringing educational fair activities to additional Davis County citizens. A lot of people throughout the state, including legislators, are waning in regard to fairs, but we here in Davis County feel greater pride in preparation and greater purpose in producing than before. Miss Davis County The Miss Davis County contest begins the festivities Aug. 13 at 7 p m. in the Layton High School auditorium. Contestants will be judged for personality and appearance during a luncheon that day. They will be judged in the evening on talent. All participants in the pageant must have won a contest in their respective cities in the county, and must be unmarried and between 18 and 25. conA "Little Princess test will also be held the same day for girls between the ages of 3 and 6. The county queen, in addition to reigning at the fair, will participate in the Utah State Fair and be the Davis County entrant in the Miss Ribbons will go to second through sixth places. Thursdays Activities Heading the list of events on the opening day of the fair is the FFA & Horse Show 4-- H at the fairgrounds stadium. Special events and times for the remainder of the day include official opening of ail fair departments to the pub- at 10 am.; childrens barnyard at 10 a.m.; fiddle exhibition on the green at Pioneer Village, 1:30 p.m.; lic , S eating contest is set 4 pm.; nail driving contest, 5pm.; hypnotist af p m ; magic show at m ; Ogden Sky Knights parachute jumping exhibition at 8 p m and the Davis County Fair Rodeo finals at 5 30 p 8 30 p m. Another event will be a horse race Saturday at 6 p m. at the racetrack. Entries will be draw for starting positions Aug. 17 at 4 30 p m. at the fairgrounds office. There will be a purse of $100 for each race winner and an entry fee of $15. Other entertainment on opening day includes hypnotist and ventriloquist on the open air stage at 5 p.m. ; the Junior Rodeo, 5:30 pm.; magic show, 6 p.m.; farm bureau talent contest, 6:30 p.m.; country store bingo, 7 p.m., and barbershop quartet contest, 8:30 p.m. All exhibits will close at 9 p.m. Noel Evans is chairman of the Junior Rodeo events that feature lightweight ac- tivities for youngsters 13 years of age and under. The heavyweight division is open to youths 14 to 18. Classes will include steer riding, calf roping, flat races, goat tying, musical tires, barrel racing, pony express and boot races. From noon until 3 p m. there will be games and races for the kids. On Friday, the registered Quarter Horses stait the day with a show at 8 a m. Fair events and the childrens barnyard open at 10 a.m. Fridays Activities Other activities throughout the day include a flower show, 11:30 a.m.; senior citizens dinner and program at noon; fiddle exibitikm, 1 p.m.; sawdust dive for dollars, 2 p.m.; watermelon eating contest, 2 30 p m. ; pie eating contest, 3:30 p.m.; another dive for dollars at 4 p.m.; hypnotist, 5 pm; magic show, 6 p.m.; band music, 6:30 p m.; and country store bingo and demolition derby at 7 p.m. The Quarter Horse show is under the direction of Dan Campbell and will be conducted in accordance with rules and regulations of the Americian Quarter Horse . WhiteWestinghouse REFRIGERATORS The The Davis County Fair entry and judging schedule begins Monday Aug 15, with photography entries from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16 3 to 7 p.m.; high school and entries, Homemaking junior high entries, 3 to 6 p.m. ; recreation, arts and crafts 4 to 7 p m. ; hobbies, 4 to 7 p m. ; art, 4 to 7 p.m. and senior citizens 1 to 7 p m. All entries for fair competition will be judged at the fairgrounds. Wednesday, Aug. 17 Judging at 9 a.m for homemaking, photography hobbies, art, senior citizens, high school and junior high home arts. Rabbit, pigeon and poultry entries will be accepted from 5 to 8 p.m. Crops, vegetables and horticulture entries from 7 to 8 p.m. with childrens barnyard entries from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 Entries for open class crops, junior divison crops, horticulture, vegetables and other agricultural and livestock projects will be accepted from 6 30 to 9 a.m. Judging will commence for junior and open agricultural departments at 9 a.m. with the FFA and club livestock judging also at 9 a.m. Entries in the flower show category will be accepted from 4 to 9 p m. : 4-- Friday, Aug. 19 From 6.30 to 8 a.m. more entries in the flower show starts the day with flower judging at 8:30 a.m. The registered Quarter Horse show takes place in the rodeo arena at 8 a m. Saturday, Aug. 20 Activities begin with judging at the all breeds halter horse show at 8 a.m. Open class dairy cattle judging is a 11 a m.
