Show hae SPLENDID OUTING the old folks had bad the time ot of their lives yesterday at glenwood park ogden two special trains of tour four cars each carried the veterans to the cool spacious park where they were made comfortable and happ internally as well nell as externally the special trains carried upwards of six hundred souls and many people went down during the day on tile lie regular cars so 0 o that the crowd in the afternoon numbered many more than that and not a sin single le incident happened to mar the pleasure the outing on each of the special trains that left brigham at and respectively was a company of singers who made the tha lively by singing songs the committee had also provided a liberal supply of soda pop which was passed 0 to o the veterans en route and they were mere kept in a mood that reminded then thee of their childhood days many years ago throughout the day at the park the various wards were given alvea space under the spreading trees each ward being designated by placards tables and benches were arranged and camp chairs were pro provided id in ia abundance so that sitting was as made comfortable and as quickly as possible the tables were ere spread and the veterans feasted the various ward committees had provided refreshments fresh ments for all the aged ones of 0 their own ward so that the guests had nothing to worry them but to find room tor for the good things set before them it was iras a good sight to see the many tables being surrounded by the men and women who have an empire and nearly fought lifes battles they were wera a happy lot too appreciating what was being done for them and enjoying it to the limit when luncheon was concluded a splendid program of speechmaking and staging singing was rendered onabe on the platform in the natural amphitheatre of the park remarks Remar gs were nere made by aleean k stohl auld ami elder an drew jensen of the state committee each of whom felicitee fell feli cited the veterans on their presence and pronounced blessings upon their head for their past labors and the days of the future musical numbers were rendered by the tha singers a solo was sung that touching ballad the blow almost killed father by george margetts Alar getts of the state committee a solo kind words by miss lottle lottie owen with chorus and hard times by elder R L fishburn and wife and george gilbert and wife this was one of the features of the program as the singers to years in their combined ages and brother fishburn Fish burm has been singing this stirring so song ng for the past fifty sears at the conclusion of the program the prizes were awarded but unfortunately tuna tely a list of the winners was not obtainable this morning then the guests mingled in happy association partook of some more luncheon rested awhile boarded ue ae U e cars and came home a tired but happy crowd ot young old children members andrew jensen george margetts hyrum Groo and elder bean with their wives of the general old folks committee of the state came up from salt lake and mingled in happy abandon with the veterans during the day the outing was a perfect success the day was ideal and not a hitch bitch in the proceedings occurred barring a bad schedule in the running time of the special trains that carried the people home everybody did his bis and her best to make the aged ones happy that success attended their efforts will be atte attested by all who went down on the excursion |
