Show Great National Contest The greatest educational contest i ever undertaken in this country is to i be inaugurated within the next few days. It gives every indication of be-! be-! coming one of the important events of i the approaching holiday season. More than 2.200 awards are to be make to school children and teachers, for the purpose of ascertaining the literary ability of children in the public schools of the United States. The undertaking is in the nature of a great contest between the school children chil-dren of the country for the American championship in a 500 word prize essay coniDetition. There are to be 100 cash awards of $5 each to pupils; 100 cash awards of $5 each to teachers; 1,000 Tiffany medals and 1,000 engraved engrav-ed diplomas to the winners of the competition. com-petition. These awards have been donated by the Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Company, of New York, one of the greatest of our Amer-I Amer-I ican industrial institutions. It is probable that the school children chil-dren of this town and the surrounding villages will enter the contest with the intent of bringing some of the honors to our community. It is known that there are many children here who nave shown exceptional ability in their school work, and they stand unusually opportunity to win one of the awards in the national championship. The Remington-UMC Literary Committee, which has charge of the contest, has its headquarters at 299 Broadway, New York. |
