Show EXPLAIN HOME STEAD LAW 14 1 land officials provisions of new federal legislation repeated inquires at the local unit estates States land office relative to the effect of the new three year homestead law on existing entries ha have e led the register and receiver of the I 1 land and office to submit the following as their interpretation pre tation of the law by the act of june 6 1912 known as the three year homestead law all entries made after the date of the said act are subject to its p provisions in cases where residence Is required proof may be made any time after a residence of three years has been maintained and the necessary amount of cultivation can be shown the said act also applies to all entries made prior to the passage of said act uran upon naich proof has not been made unless entry men notify the local land office in writing by registered mail within days after the date of the passage of the act that they elect to make mahe proof under the provisions of 0 the old law Entry men under section 6 ot of the so called smoot law are required under the new law to cultivate one eighth of the area of entry during the second year of the entry one eighth of the area during the third year of the entry and continue the cultivation of such areas during the fourth and fifth years of the entry under tinder section 6 are not required or expected to file in the local land office the notice of election referred to in tile new law that provision refers only to entries which require resl residence dence herald republican publican He |
