Show CASTLE DALE HAS DISASTROUS FIRE Old Globe Store Building Visited Again by Fire -Building Badly Damaged and Contents Ruined It was four o'clock in the morning hen the fire was discovered and the alarm given. In less than half an hour there were a hundred people on the scene who proceeded, at a lively pace to extinguish the flames and empty the building. Things were thrown pell-mell, helter skelter in every direction, windows were shattered, doors broken, and many dollars worth of drygoods was damaged in the mad rush of the amateur firemen to the rescue. Deputy sheriff Bunnel acted as chief of the fighting force and managed them very well considering what he had to work with. The actual loss is not yet definatly known but it must run into the hundreds of dollars. The goods that were saved will no doubt be disposed of by fire sale. The insurance on goods and building is reported to be seven thousand four hundred dollars. If such be the case the loss will not be so great. Representatives of the insurance compnany are expected to day. It has been suggested to us that the "G!obe"c"rner ought to be set apart as an experiment station for our amateur firemenjthey havn'c had anypractice to speak of since the old Winters fire. |
