Show TELEPHONE COMPANY RESTORES LOCAL SERVICE Discontinuing the local service last Tuesday night with a bare three days notice and no general explanation of the action whatever.the Eastern Utah Telephone Tele-phone company got its feet into a muddle mud-dle that it soon wiggled out of when pressure was brought to bear by local business men, and the instruments were again connected up by Thursday morning by order from headquarters at Price. It is understood that it is the conten tion of the Price officials tnat witn tne comparatively few availing themselves of the use of the service.it is not a paying pay-ing proposition a wise plea to make to prospective purchasers we must say! This may be true, however, inasmuch as everything as regards service, collecting, collect-ing, etc., must necessarily be directed from Price, but when criticism of the loyalty of the people to the company is made, we can only s ly that it has been with admirable patience that subscribers subscrib-ers have put up with the adominable service at times during the past two years, and it is no doubt at least partly due to the incapable or careless handling of the service given the forty to fifty subscribers that has discouraged or dis gusted others. The man who has the phone installed to save time does not usually have enough of that article to spare to permit his making the trip on the heels of his continued ringing to coax the operator to "get next!" The present connections will be maintained main-tained for a time that local people may, in the interim, be able to formulate some plan for taking over the local franchise fran-chise and equipment, which is offered at a very reasonable figure, considering the unusually good general equipment. The switchboard is a rather antiquated j and considerably dilapidated affair and this should be replaced. Sister communities com-munities ever the mountain are blessed with splendid sendee at a dollar per, and paying money on the investment! The benefits to the community and the lengthening of the ordinary human life that comes through theuseof this modern mod-ern convenience (under certain cendi-! cendi-! tions) are too readily apparent to even the occasional user to need much argument argu-ment to urge its retention in our mid it. Coincident with the adrupt decision of the company as regards th. local situation sit-uation announcement was made of a decided increase in Puce local rates and a reduction in toil rates. Price subscribers subscrib-ers will hereafter pay $4 per month for business pnone and $2.50 and $2 respect-I respect-I vely for private and two-party line ser- vice. |
