The group claims the freeway will damage the environment and scar the scenery in the area. The group has taken its case to court where the matter is currently under advisement. Beneath the present fire station radioactive tailings have been releasing radon gas into the station. The tailings were used as a ground fill for the building. Cheaper to Remove According to a Department of Energy study, it would be cheaper to remove the tailings from beneath the station than building a new fire station. However, Mr. Adams said, the new fire station was proposed before anybody knew about the radon gas in the building. He said other reasons for the new station include a need for larger facilities and a shorter response time. Council members also discussed coming elections. Three positions in the communty council are up for election Nov. 6. Several members of the council said they hoped voter turnout would be better this year than in the past.
