Show ORANGEVILLE The coal mines of Cottonwood-canyon except the Johnson mine are closed by order of the goverment on account of their not getting the mines legally protected. This is a shame, with mountains of coal right in our door yards and the people of the county letting let-ting the opportunity pass by through utter carelessness, and now if they purchase the land from the government govern-ment it will mean a large sum of money and under the condition that ihe people are at the present time the prospects are favorable that others may come in arid do this purchasing while the people sit back and crone, Maud-Muller's "Might Have Been". This move should rouse the people of this county to many avenues that are now open to them that will be closed or taken from them in the near future, the most important one being the reservoir res-ervoir sites that lay in the canyons, waiting! waiting, .or some one to take them in hand, to prepare them to hold great rivers of water with which to moisten the dry soil of this wonderful valley and make homes for thousands of families in the near future; say no.hing of the power of electricity that could be handled on a large scale, running machine shops and factories, motor-cars and what not. Shall w let strangers come and take away our birthright from us. Oh! ye people of Emery County, shall we? A lucern seed cleaner has been attached at-tached to the mill and is being run by electricty, and the managers of the mill are anticipating utilizing their machinery in many other ways. . The stores of J. K. Reid, Wm. Fail and the Co-op were broken into Mon day night, and safes and drawers rummaged of their contents. Considerable Consid-erable money and merchandise was taken but they left no clue to their identity. This is beginning to be a frequent pastime in our town and for the good of all concerned steps should be taken to stop such proceedings. In our last we gave credit to Mr. Jewkes for being one of the great shots of the young men who killed the deer lately, while Earnest Reid was entitled to the honor. So, Frank, you will have to relinquish your rights (?) and go with the crowd next time. |
