Show STATE LIBRARY ASS'N FORMED LAST SATURDAY For the purpose of making the library system ot the state one of the most perfect in the country, more than 100 librarians li-brarians and others interested in the work last Saturday gathered at Salt Lake City and organized the Utah State Library association. It is intended to push work of establishing estab-lishing libraries and gymnasiums throughout the state. Aside from making organized effort along this line, it is possible that a committee may be appointed to lay the needs of Utah before be-fore Andrew Carnegie personally with the hope of securing further donations from the philanthropist toward the erection of buildings. The officers of the association are. Dr. E. G. Gowans, president; Professor Christian Larsen first vice president; Miss Esther Nelson, Nel-son, second vice president; Alfred Nelson, Nel-son, secretaay and treasurer; Miss Joanna Sprague and Dr. Fred W. Taylor, Tay-lor, members of the executive commit tee. tee; Howard R. Driggs, library secretary secre-tary of the state board of education, was also made a member of the executive execu-tive committee. The session, which was held in the chambers of the city commissioners, was called to order by State Superintendent Superin-tendent A. C. Nelson at 10 o'clock. The morning session was devoted id-most id-most entirely to paving the way for permanent per-manent organization, effected during the afternoon meeting. Committees on nominations and constitution and bylaws by-laws were named by Mr. Nelson. On the former were D. C. Woodward, Huntington, Emery county ; R. V. Larson, Lar-son, Logan; Orson Ryan, Midvale; Alfred Nelson, Tooele, and Mr. Driggs Salt Lake. On the constitution and bylaws by-laws cummittee were Dr. E. G. Gowans, Ogden; S. P. Eggertsen, Provo; Miss Sprague, Salt Lake; I. C. Spencer, j Vernal; Cam Gaufin, Murray; and Miss Nelson, Salt Lake. Among the speakers were Governor William Spry, Mr. Driggs, Dr. Gowans and Mrs. K. M. Jacobson, library organizer. or-ganizer. Miss Edna Evans sang and Miss Eva Crawford gave a violin solo. The principal business of the afternoon after-noon session was the electing of officers. Papers by Superintendent D. H Christensen, Chris-tensen, Miss Sprague, Professor J. C. Hogenson and Mr. Eggertsen were read. There was a piano solo by Miss Myrtle Butler and a vocal solo by Horace Hor-ace S. Ensign. Thoe who attended the convention were Miss Karen M.
