Williams Tribune Staff Writer The joint Salt Lake Civic Auditorium Committee has recommended that e audionly one torium and sports arena be built In Salt Lake County. THE RECOMMENDATION received by the Salt Lake City Commission Tuesday was based upon a study of several months. The study came up with this important assumption, said Howell Q. Cannon, chairman: TThe Chic Auditorium would house the only large sports arena in the valley. THE REPORTS recommended that the need for sports arenas of the University of Utah and the Utah State Fair should be combined with other e civic needs for a auditorium. . State and local officials gathered at the State Office Building to receive the study. THE REPORT is one link in a chain of studies designed to e provide a base for highway planning. Highways in the metropolitan area had to serve a 1960 local population of 414,000. By 1965, the number is expected to reach 492,400; by 1970, "51,-30- 0 and, by 1980, the area is expected to have a population of 821,000.
