The Thatcher Opera House was on fire. Firemen were rushed to the scene of the fire, and with the aid of local citizens, an effort was made to bring the fire under, control. Attenion first was directed toward saving the Thatcher building, but when it became apparent that the effort was uselss, firemen turned their attention to saving adjacent buildings. When the fire was over, only the walls were left standing. The loss was officially set at $60,000, of which only $37,000 was covered by insurance. A clerk of the Golden Rule Company had dropped a match into some cotton batting in the basement of the building. The Thatcher Opera House was completely destroyed. Logan had lost one of its dominant landmarks. Some of the finest talent ever to appear in the west had played on its stage. The importance of the loss to the Cache Valley public is reflected in the large headlines which announced the destruction. The headlines blared: "Worst Fire in Cache Valley .
