For the past 10 years, two largi accreditment agencies the American Association of Schools of Socia Work (AASSW) and the Nations Association of Schools of Socia Administration rNASSA) ha represented different viewpoints, explained Dr. Geddes. Two year! ago both agencies, under pressu from the Association of Land Grant colleges and the Association of State Universities, agreed ti invite the National Council oi Soe'al Work Education to make i study of social work education and to make recommendations looking to an enlarged plan of accreditment of schools of social work." A preliminary leport was maid at the Cleveland meetings. Both US AC and the University of Utah will be affected by the new developments. The chief changes proposed, according to Dr. Geddes, are: 1. It to is be recommenced that the accreditment function be taken aw; y from both the AASSW and NASSA. 2. That an accreditment division be set up in the National Council on Social Work Education for nil schools giving social work education. Represented on this counul would be (1) the schools of socnl work, (2) the members of the profession, and (3) agencies employing social workeis. 3. That schools of social wok of both the old organizations (AvSSW and NASSA) be given Rea Civil t the nounc public the ui Eigl becoir nccieditment on the 'preliminary r lsame basis for a peiiod, durng which time new accreditment standards will be developed. Under these conditions the Division of Social Woik of the USAC and the Senool of Social Work of the University of L'lah would both come under the same standards Dr. Ernest P. Hollis, dnectoi of the study of social woik education which is being sponsored by the National Counril on Social Work Education, stated to Dr. Geddes at the close of the confeunre, 'I am confident that the recommendations being made will be established.
