Show A MAN GOES TO REST last sunday evening at 8 oc rock the ibe sufferings Buffe rings of james M iverson came to an ind end and he passed on to a well earned rest mr air iverson has been suffering for many years from a growth in his stomach caused by being badly bumped in falling from a building some twelve years ago it gradually grew more aggravated until it sapped his vitality so bo completely compie tely that he was unable to work for the past year he has been scarcely able to leave his home and during the last few weeks was bed fast suffering intensely he became unconscious on friday last and gradually sank bank until the end came camb bringing relief to liis his sufferings which were pitiful to behold tor for the poor man could not find comfort in any position he assumed james al M iverson was born in wiborg alborg amt hytland denmark october 1845 here he grew up and at the age of 13 began to learn the mason trade on march 3 1864 lie he was baptized a member of the mormon church and in the spring of 1865 left his home and started with ills his fathers family for utah As the emigrants were gathering together preparatory to sailing he met miss bliss severena jepsen jensen who became his ils first wife they were married aboard ship i six months after leaving denmark they reached utah arriving on nov 15 having walked across the plains driving ox teams tamo he passed through the early experiences ei p e bences incident incident to pioneer life living in cellars and dugouts dug outs until he could all ord build b si bate better for or many years mr iverson was active in church work being assistant superintendent tor for a number of years and later appointed superintendent of the first ward sunday school also acted as presiding teacher tor for many years in 1878 lie he obeyed the celestial law and married miss mary jensen and for this at the time ot of the crusade he was hounded tor for years and fifiel finally ay paid a flue fine and served a term in prison to satisfy the law dy by his first wife he had seven children five of whom have preceded him to the great beyond and by his second wife lie he had eight cli children ildren six of whom are still living for 30 years mr air iverson worked steady taking contracts and building houses and it is sate safe to say bay he has built one halt half of the brick adobe and stone atone houses in brigham city I 1 mr iverson was a sterling example of 0 the noblest work of god tor for he was an honest man this community will miss him and the world has been made better by his having lived in it funeral services were held yesterday in the first ward chapel the building being packed to its capacity with relatives ind and sympathizing friends the stand was draped in white with garlands of 0 autumn flowers twined in the drapery and a profusion of floral emblems covered the casket and were banked about the rostrum bishop G W cawns was in charge of 0 the services and made the ae opening remarks other speakers were elders eldera jonah mathias Mat hlas C hoist nets nels madsen president oleen N stohl and V F W Fia Flah burn liburn each speaker paid an eloquent tribute to the sterling character of the deceased and recounted some of the notable acts of his life the musical numbers rendered by the choir were tho the hymns 0 my aly father the lord is shepherd and 1 I know that my aly redeemer lives I 1 between speakers bliss collie lund sang 0 dry those tears Teara with violin by A W trenchard the prayers were offered by james olsen olaen and bishop D P burt A large cortege accompanied the remains to th the e cemetery whee they were tenderly laid away la in their final resting place |
