q remarkable FEA FEAT T OFTE ff M EMORY M R Y 1 W child children ren learn and recite thousand ds of verses the pastor of a church in a jersey town wished 10 0 lo o stimulate the memories of the children in his sunday school to this end he offered two prizes the first to pupils over and the other to pupils u under twelve who during an interval of three months dolid wol ld learn to recite the greatest number of verses from the bible A committee was appointed to hear the contestants tor for the prie and register the number of verses memorized the first prize was taken by a young girl of sixteen who bad had corn coul bitted to memory during this interval of ninety days 12 verses of scrip ture these passages coveted the en tire new testament nent with the excel tion of two genealogies and included liberal selections tons from psalms gene aisi la and other parts of the old test testa in ment ent the m inner of the second prize was a little sister of the other prize winner a child of eleven years sha she had learned verses during the contest some 19 N verses erses we were re mem prized
