Show president advises secretary of agriculture that his decision is sustained protest of colorado delegation did not have desired effect and pas tying of livestock within for est reserves will be permitted next season washington president roosevelt on wednesday advised the secretary of agriculture that he would sustain the regulation adopted by his depart ment imposing grazing charges tor pasturing livestock within forest re serves this action was taken with especial reference to the protest made by a committee from the cattle grow ers association which waited on the president saturday last accompanied by the colorado representatives in congress senator patterson ot the delegation filed a brief with the pres ident contending that the purposed por posed imposition of a grazing tee was illegal and not within the province ot the government to enforce it without ad dit ional legislation the president conferred with the attorney general and as a result of the conference an bounced that he concurred in the lat ter s opinion that the imposition ot a chaice for gi axing within the re serves is legal and proper the forest service has completed authorizations tor grazing during the coming season in yellowstone reser wyoming in the shoshone di vision of this reserve 20 cattle and 70 sheep will be adm eted in wind river division 30 cattle and 90 sheep and in teton division cattle and sheep this is an increase in the number of sheep over last season ot 50 grazing charges will be 20 cents per head tor cattee and 5 cents for sheep in the wind river division and 25 cents tor cattle and cents tor sheep in the shoshone division |
