The four herds produced pounds of butterfat in some 359,000 pounds of milk, averaging 359.6 pounds of fat per herd. Their production is sufficient to supply all of the dairy needs of 90 average families for one entire year. Plowman brothers of Smith-fiel- d are credited with an average productoin of 389.3 pounds of butterfat from nine purebred Holsteins. Roy C. Thain of - Smithfield has averaged 386.6 pounds of fat with five cows. purebred George S. Noble of Trenton has averaged 352.8 pounds of fat with 11 purebred Holsteins and Clarence Meikle of Smith-fiel- d has averaged 323.2 pounds of fat with nine purebred Holsteins. These cows are among nearly 4000 purebred Holsteins in 189 herds in 31 different .states that have topped the butterfat mark in herd averages, , The fact that the only four herds in Utah that made the high average come from Cache county is regarded in local dairy circles as a distinct triumph for the high class local dairy industry. The Holstein-Friesia- n predominates in local herds. PRESTON LEM TAKEN S.
