Candidate Merkley was elected City Commissioner i,n 1929 on just the same kind of a "Four Square Loyalty Crusade that maintains at the present time. At that time he was manager of the Cache Auto company and the enjoyed a nice income from that source as well as 19d0 Commissioner. of During City salary and perquisites he felt that Ogden offered more advantages for a man of his proportions than did Logan so he went to Ogden and became associated with the Gateway Chevrolet company. His loyalty for Logan and her people was not great enough to induce him to fulfill the trust imposed upon him by the people of Logan and he resigned his position. As Mr. Merkley always "loyal whether running for office or otherwise, it goes without saying that he was 'loyal to Ogden and his new employer, but at the same time it is a fact that his connections with the Ogden company were severed by the Gateway Company or by himself, and we now have him here just in time to qualify under the law as a candidate for office on the Lbyal ticket. It therefore becomes necessary for Candidate Merkley to transfer his loyalty from Ogden back to Logan where he is now engaged in selling insurance, his old position at the Cache Auto Company having been filled by CORNISH A i 1 Humor , half-starve- d I l d Wells ville News . i i.--. 1 nl 1 ( other jiersons. Naturally the question arises; Does Mr. Merkleys loyalty to Logan depend on the willingness of the people of Logan to pay him compensation as commissioner again, the said compensation being the purchase price for the transfer of his loyalty from Ogdon back to Logan, or did he come back because Mayor Lundstrom desired a running mate who, if elected, would agree with the Mayor in all particulars? If neither of the above then why is he transferring his loyalty from Ogden, the larger field for his business abilities, to Logan where his loyalty was not strong enough to impel him to complete his farmer term as commissioner? e, j two-thir- -- , I OFFICIAL BALLOT d, j Ugly pimples r sr i TTTIfi ' ' . score! t if European kingdoms eontin-- : into reoubiirs. it is ;L.0'tui'n a question of time until he anv titles leu Jh American lodee rooms , ye diary (October 2b nnhTJr a tore. an4 fd sjrang to reading au mai,v,' inner and the fu a h-, w,eano tJ, wish I ' ere A. the Lido. lulling8andwMaw some lovely gambling away at some gav casino Jxmis. or fvghting d,,?,; with Albanian counts eraery n aUoJ V on Casoi And so dreaming, hen Humor doth suggest I do hriU of TOal fiJa' A nos, Pox, on such sordid suggest! phoot four-bit- s. It is common knowledge that one or our present Commissioners, L. P. Peterson, has differed with the Mayor on many of his policies, and he has been big enough and manly enough to voice his opposition, and on account of his stand the Mayor has informed him that he (the Mayor) and Commissioner Olof I. Pederson could get along and that they, therefore did not need Commissioner L. P. Peterson. Me theiefoie conclude, and on reasonable grounds too, that the Mayor has called Mr. Merkley back to and asked him to bring his loyalty with him soLogan that Merkley, jf elected, will be on hand to vote yes to everything that Mayor Lundstrom proposes and requires, and thus demonstrate that even after a sojourn in Ogden he is still humble and willing to listen to his masters voice and be a me to commissioner as of vore. All of which is a good and sufficient reason why Mr. Merkley should not be elected. UNITED LOGAN ORGANIZATION the kitchen fyre. . Men and women should be elected to office for their wisdom and discretion, and City Governments call for three men so that three minds may operate for the benefit of the city, and it is. likewise impossible that three men, if tley are honest, can always agree. It is just as impossible that Mayor Lundstrom and Mr. Merkley could, or can, honestly agree on all matters, and yet the record shows that during Mr. Merkleys administration as with Mayor Lundstrom, H. P. Nielsen and L. P. Teterson he voted against the Mayor but oncei.nnd that was on December 30, 1927 wiien he- - joined Commissioner H. P. Nielsen and voted to permit the Palais d Or dance hall to run after midnight on New Years Eve, Mayor Luiydstroni voting no. This very trival matter seems to be the only one on which Mayor Lundstroms and Mr. Merkleys minds have differed. The law provides that the Commissioners shall meet four times weekly. one meeting each week to be in the evening. It is inconceivable that the hundreds of questions come jhat up for consideration and decision during the scores of meetings that were held, that the" minds of these two men should be in such complete accord. We do not want to encourage lack of harmony, indeed harmony is most desired, but Mayor Lundstrom is human, and being human is many, many times in error and when he is in error Logan is deserving of a commissioner who will take a stand and vote against him according to the honest dictates of his conscience. We welcome and are triad t0 have Mr. Merkley and his family back in Logan as a citizen, but we would like to have his loyalty based upon natural impulses, rather than monetary considerations. If this were the ease we should not insist that he be frank and tell us What Great Achievement he accomplished while in to impel Ogden him to transfer h.s loyalty from Ogden back to LoganT and Lord!
