Oscar Veltz); the Ogden Woolen Mills; the Provo Woolen Mills; Elias Morris Sons (mantels); the Ashton Fire Brick company; Huddart Floral; Hustlers and the Peery Bros.; State School for the Blind and Deaf; and the Deseret News art department and womens section. Attention was given to a fruit display from stories to tell. Built in 1902, this stately structure was the focal point for the Utah State Fairs first celebration at its new permanent home. This September, the Utah State Fair is celebrating 100 years at the Fairpark. Prior to die fair opening, fair directors began searching for Tfor historical infor- ' mation about die 1902. Initial facts have come from 1902 News clippings. and the West brothers, were given attention for their grain samples. Hattie B. Cannon of Salt Lake City was the owner of an aw ard- w inning cow. Fair Administrators in 1902 were President Nelson A. Empcy. Vice President John H. White, and Secretary S.W. Sears. Since the Promontory building itself hasnt yet shared any stories from 1902, the Fairpark is exhibiting what information has been gathered about the first state fain during the State Fair that runs through Washington County. RJL Judd of SL George was credited with impressive results in keeping the fruit fresh as it was transported from Dixie by wagon and railroad. Other fruit exhibits worthy of note were created by N.B. Johnson of Provo; James M. Fisher. Jr., of East Mill Creek; Ina G. Johnson, and James King of Calders Park; the Salt Lake Valley Canning company; L Hemenway, Granger, James G. Rice-Eccl- Lila Wright wanted one last picture of the Olympic Flame before it closed on the Winter Olympics at Rice Eccles Stadium. As she was about to take the picture, she noticed an opening of blue sky moving toward the top of the flame and waited. With grey clouds surrounding the torch, and atch of blue sky directly Overhead, she clicked the shutter and captured the es petition. After the Mayors death in July, Wright decided to enter die photo into the contest.
