Show 6 Tha Magna TimaWMt Valley Newt, May 23, 2002 School Ballet West brings dance to local schools Brockbank Junior students rewarded Students at Hillside Elementary School recently received a visit from the dancers of Ballet West in its Ballet West for Kids pio-gra- The dancers presented an assembly that gave students an opportunity to learn about the history of ballet. Ballet West Dancers demonstrated different dance steps and techniques for the students and then put it all together in a modified version of 'The Nutcracker." 5 t fc lame Fukushima has leen named the (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement Teacher of the Year 2X)2. She is one of the excellent members of the faculty of Hunter High School. Every year students under her leadership win State MESA Scholarships and this year is no exception. Hunter students Huy Dinh, Kanina Ho and Wendy Ey are recipients. Granger students are Ramon Phonetherha, Crystal Vallejos and Michel Torres. Cyprus senior Kimberley Gallegos is also a winner of a scholarship. MESA advisors and students and parents were invited to attend an awards banquet. Entitled "Granite School District - lighting the way for students to get fired up with MESA," more than 24 awards were given out to elementary. Junior high and senior high students. The meal prepared by the individuals at Cottonwood High cannot be understated either. It takes much preparation and dedication to present such a event. On June 5, Granger Elementary w ill go on a "Sailing on" event for Kindergarten Track A from 6 to 7 p.m. The pavilion at Farnsworth Elementary is As e? I '& under construction. It will provide an area for students to gather with their teachers to do art projects, science experiments or just to have access to an outdoor classroom experience. Appreciation goes out to local businesses, PTA and the Farnsworth community council for this. The school is planning to hold their PTA Carnival on June 7. Magna Elementary Talent Extravaganza" last Thursday evening. Students staged dances, skits and basketball dribbling in the gymnasium. The Hillside students were invited to participate in demonstrating how everyday movements are similar in rhythm, shape and dynamics to ballet steps. Mrs. Winder and the PTA worked very hard in making sure that each student was recognized and made to feel very special. Unfortunately I missed the opportunity to witness Sara Mortensen, an instruc- tional assistant at West Valley Elementary take the oath of citizenship at the school. am extremely pleased that the students were able to share in her achievement and that they had the opportunity to realize the value of living in this great country.
