Magna T.rro, West Vjlle New Kearns Chronicle, Apnl 11,2002 & 7 School TestOut Challenge to be held for tech students The TestOut Corpdration, Utah Valley State College and Advanced Technical Center are sponsoring the second annual TestOut Challenge. The TestOut Challenge Competition will be held May 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Utah Valley State College, Orem, in the Technology Building The TestOut Challenge is competitive event designed for high school and applied technology students to encourage them to pursue technology careers and industry certifications. Students will compete for more than $150,000 in scholarships and certification' test vouchers by demonstrat-- ; ing their skill proficiency by testirg in two of the follow-in- g networking exams: Cisco CCNA, CompTIAA, CompTIA Network, Microsoft MCP, and Novell CNA. All exams will be administered using TestOut's ExamSim!" product that simulates the actual certification exam. To date, more than 300 students have registered to compete. Additional support is being provided by Cisco, CompTIA, Intel, Micron, Microsoft, Novell, Prometric, Software House International, and VUE. Additional sponsoring Utah schools include the College of Eastern Utah, Dixie College, LDS Business College, Snow College, the University of Utah, Utah State University, and Weber State University. Angela Hurst, of Taylorsville, was selected as SLCC's vice president to the state team; and John Belcher, of Salt Lake City, was elected as state vice president of communication. With if they get adequate sleep and a good breakfast each morning. It is important to have your children to school on time and prepared to read or listen to all directions carefully- Sometimes students have an eversion to tests but if you contact your local schools, they have great hints and -ideas on overcoming this problem. It is often hard for children to relax, but it makes taking the tests less stressful. If you are visiting a school, please pick up a visitors pass at the front office. We want parents and mentors to feel welcome in the nwms raw g schools, but the safety and security of our children is extremely important. If you want a neighbor to pick up your children during school hours, make sure that the proper paper work has been completed. Students should be taught not to speak to any strangers w hen they are walking home. a final note, it is that our children learn tolerance and respect for all people. This training begins at home and we continue it in the school setting. In the home, children look to the examples their parents set. classes are from six to 8 p.m. End of the year tests are going to be administered during the month of May. These criterion reference tests are commonly known as CRTs. They are extremely important because they are directly tied to the Utah Core Curriculum and are often the source of conversation at the legislature. These tests measure the knowledge level students are expected to gain as they progress through school. District and school results are shared with the school community in the Fall.
