Dean Ledbetter Staff Writer Cyprus High boys track team tamed the Copper Hills Grizzlies 96 - 44 on March 26 for a smashing victory in its home opener meet in Magna. The dual meet featured class 4 - A Cyprus winning 13 of 17 track and field events against 5 - A rival Copper Hills High School.. A relay squad and 6 individuals were in the 13 gold medal positions for the Pirates. The Cyprus 4 x 400 meter relay squad ran away with top honors in that event. Chris Dilley won the 1 10 meter high hurdles, 100 meter dash and 300 meter hurdles. Keith Powell captured first place in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Shaun Rillon finished first Raul Rios finished third in the 800 meter run. Nick Vickers placed third in discus. Derek Dilley was third highest in pole vault Cyprus swept the top 3 places in the 800 meter, discus, shot put and javelin events. Pirates finished first and second in 1 10 high hurdles, 300 hurdles, and the long jump. While Cyprus recorded a 13 - 4 margin in event championships, Copper Hills won the 4 x 400 relay, medley, 400 meter run and high jump. in the 200 meter run and long jump. Cyprus girls track results Cyprus High girls track team was downed by Copperhills High 84 - 48 on March 26 in the 2002 home opener meet in Magna. The visiting 5 - A Grizzlies won 10 events and 4 - A Lady Pirates won 6 events. Several Lady Pirates finished in the 6 gold medal positions.
