Ji GOD ...IMA YANKEE DCOttt DAND- YBy PEBBI OLSON Editor They may be scary and full of terror, but the four ghoulish monsters haunting the Off Broadway Theater are also sad monsters looking for a way to be accepted by their peers as they find a way to cross over to the other side. Such is the background of Forever Dead, a musical comedy currently being performed at the Off Broadway Theater, 272 S. Main St. It is a Halloween show to die for that has the potential to become a classic treat in local theater. The show is an amusing parody of the popular Forever Plaid musical that takes many vintage 1950's and 1960's songs of the Forever Plaid concert and modified to fit the specific tale of Frankie, better known as Frankenstein, Barkey, the wolfman. Sphinx the mummy and Bloods, the vampire. Starring as the monsters are the talents of Tim Jones as Bloods, Jim Hardwick as Sphinx, Ben Porter as Frankie and Danny Tarasevich as Barky. Acompanying the Monsters in their stage review on piano is Maxine Babalis as Doris Karloff who also helps keep the peace between the monsters as they start fighting. The show was brilliantly written by theater founder Eric Jensen and directed by Ben Porter. Their tale is a sad one as the monsters with the golden voices were not allowed into the Transylvannia High School Madrigals , in which they tell that tale of woe in "Three Unhappy Monsters," sung to the tune of "Three coins in the fountain." The monsters are then joined on stage by Bloods to complete their singing quartet with a warning to the audience to not fall in love with Bloods because "He sucks" to the tune of "No, Not L" Monsters have never sung as well as this misunderstood quartet. The lyrics of all the revised songs are cleaver for those who know the original turns and funny for those in the audience who don't. Each one moves the story along at an even and funny pace. "Moments to Dismember" taken from "Moments to Remember" is one of the highlights of the show as the monsters talk about the reason's why they do the killing they did. Not to be outdone is the explanation as to why the monster haunt the Off Broadway Theater to the tune of Lady in Spain, the monsters do a tribute to all the scenes that were left on the cutting-roo- m floor of the theater. As each of the ghouls come to face their own monsters that have kept them haunting the theater, they each tell their own sad tale, not sadder, or more well done than Sphinx's take-o- ff of "Bohemian Rhapsody," which is by far the best recreation of any of the songs in the show and so well done that the whole show is worth seeing if only for that one number. , Other numbers that are hauntingly i; creative include a tribute to the Full Moon to the tune of Blue Moon by Barkey and the ensamble signing about their anger to the tune of Earth Angel. Added to the music is an array of that will stir up jokes and more laughter than the audience can handle. Forever Dead will conlcude its run at the Off Broadway Theater with performances Thurday, Friday and Monday at 7 p.m. Tickets are For tickets call "spook-tacula- children ages 3-- and OF WPEmtT.
